    “Over here!” yelled Alex. Running towards the other side of the court, he held his hands out to catch the ball. The long pass was successful and Alex shot another two points for his team. The ball was taken back to the other side by the other team, and time was running short, so they attempted the shot much too rashly, and it missed. The rebound was done by one of Alex’s teammates, and once again he bolted to the other side and called for the long pass. But this time, his teammate overshot the pass, and the ball went out of bounds. Being the nearest to the ball, Alex ran out to the field to get it. He stopped, however, because a girl had already picked up the ball. She lifted the ball from the ground and smiled as she threw it at Alex’s direction.     Chapter One

    I fear for my Ivalice. I fear the sound of cannons that fill the night. I fear the blood that drenches the grasslands and the blades of steel left behind. I have done everything in my power to alleviate the fear and anxiety that clouds the minds of my people, but I am afraid that the terror is just too great. A king of a small country can only do so much to defend his nation from two warring nations so powerful that one can overrun us in a few days. Ivalice is simply a prize; another asset to conquer. Ridorana to the east and Archadia to the west. Day by day steel-clad soldiers, either mounted or walking, pour into the grazing grounds for our cattle and spill gallons of blood. By sunset, the stench of the bodies is so strong it is enough to drive a man crazy, as if the reality of death all around makes the mind lose all sanity and submit to a fear-induced coma.

    Peter has always been a shy guy. Since he was in grade school, he didn’t socialize that well, and his hobbies were those of a geek in his time: computer games, not sports. He wasn’t that much of a laughingstock, though, because he was practically invisible. He had friends, but they were even geekier than him. This status put him at the bottom of the social ladder, but he didn’t really care, and he didn’t really strive to climb it. He was this way all the way up to high school.

    Even as a branded loser, Peter still had a chance of getting liked, and this was because of his looks.     [”Well, good morning, sir,” the secretary said with a coy smile. She was of average height, and her attire further accentuated her slim figure. Her short blonde hair hung straight with the ends flicking outward, and her light blue eyes reflected the fluorescence of the light above.

    She raised her eyebrows flirtatiously and turned to her side with her head tilted towards the man in the doorway, clad in an expensive custom made suit. For a moment, the businessman stood there, motionless. After about five seconds, he made his way into the room and strode right towards the girl. She gasped with surprise as she was swept off her feet and was standing almost parallel to the floor, supported by only by the man’s strong arms.     Just a Dream

               

    It was two weeks after the day she turned eighteen. All dressed in white, going to the church that night...

     

    The girl held on to the leash as she walked her dog down the beach. The waves lapped intermittently at her feet, which was covered only by thin slippers. She treaded across the sand carefully, avoiding sharp rocks and brittle shells. As she strolled parallel to the water, a gust of wind blew through her light auburn hair, ruffling it slightly. She combed it using her free hand. It was almost seven in the morning, and the sun had fully passed the horizon. It gave the beach a gentle warmth, and its rays sparkled on the crystal clear blue water. The girl shielded her eyes as she looked back towards the east to see how far she had gone.
